Arrive Cape Town International Airport. You will be met by your guide and transferred through to the hotel situated on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Rest of the day at leisure to rest and explore the famous waterfront area. The evening will see the group gather for a welcome dinner in the hotel.

Cape Town
Morning city tour of Cape Town which, weather permitting, will include a trip by cable car to the top of Table Mountain.

Tuesday

Cape Town
After breakfast, depart the hotel for a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. The morning includes Sea Point, Clifton and Camps bay to Hout Bay. Leaving Hout Bay the drive continues over Chapman’s peak, though Noordhoek and down to the Cape of Good Hope Nature reserve.
After visiting the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point lunch will be served at the Black Marlin restaurant, overlooking False Bay. On completion of lunch, the afternoon drive back to the city includes a stop at the penguin colony in Simons Town and a stroll through the National Botanical Gardens, Kirstenbosch.

Wednesday

Cape Town - Knysna
Depart Cape Town and travel via Hermanus, reputed as being the best land based whale-watching location in the world, for a stop with opportunity of seeing the Southern Right Whales. (July to November only) Continue through the vast farmlands of the Overberg region to Mossel Bay. It was this bay that Bartholomew Diaz sailed into after successfully rounding the Cape of Storms back in 1488. A replica of the vessel now stands in the museum, which will be visited. Lunch at leisure. This is the official start of the Garden Route and the journey continues to the delightful town of Knysna. Arrival late afternoon. The hotel is situated on the Knysna waterfront and offers a small selection of shops and restaurants. Evening at leisure.

Thursday

Knysna – Oudtshoorn – Knysna
After breakfast, travel over the Outeniqua Mountains to the town of Oudtshoorn, nestled in the heart of the Klein Karoo. This is Ostrich country and the town has earned its reputation of the ‘Ostrich capital of the world’. At the opposite end of the valley lie the ‘Swartberg’ or Black Mountains and it is here that one finds the Cango caves.
The hour-long tour of the caves covers a few of the numerous chambers. Continue back into the valley to the Safari Ostrich Farm for lunch and a tour of the farm. This includes an opportunity to sit upon, ride and see an ostrich race with experienced jockeys. Return to Knysna, arriving late afternoon.
Dinner at leisure.

Friday

Knysna
Board the ferry, which crosses the estuary to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, situated on the western headland. A 4 x 4 ride to the top of the Headland offers most spectacular views of the coastline with an optional 1.3 mile walk back to an awaiting lunch. Re-board the ferry, cross the water back to Knysna and after just a quick stroll, board the Outeniqua Tjoe – Choe. The last remaining scheduled steam train in operation in South Africa. The train crosses over the water and into the surrounding hills, through the Wilderness lake area to the Wilderness station. Return to the hotel by road. Dinner at leisure.

Knysna - Plettenberg Bay – Port Elizabeth
Travel to the beautiful town of Plettenberg Bay. Down on the beach, boats are boarded and pushed through the surf for two hours of Seal, Dolphin and whale watching. The operators are amongst just a few in the country with the relevant permits to get up close and personal with the whales. After returning to the beach and time in the town, continue along the Garden Route, visiting the Tsitsikamma National Park where the Storms River meets the ocean. Time is allowed to walk through this coastal forest to the mouth and cross over by means of a swing bridge.
Lunch at leisure in the park. Next visit is the Big Tree, a giant Yellowwood tree with a height of over a 100ft and an age of over 800 years old. The official Garden Route ends as the Storms River is crossed continue through vast dairy farms to Port Elizabeth, arrival late afternoon.

Port Elizabeth – Durban – Zululand
Transfer to Port Elizabeth Airport for flight connection to Durban. (1hr flying time) After arrival, commence with an orientation tour of the city including the beachfront, city centre with its imposing city hall, Indian market and the botanical gardens. Continue up the coast to Umhlanga Rocks where a lunch break will be provided. After lunch travel through to Zululand and the cultural village Shakaland. This is a unique opportunity to experience the lifestyle and culture of the Zulu people, first hand. Rooms are built resembling the traditional '‘beehive hut’ of the people but with added comforts to make the stay a memorable one. Dinner will be followed by a show of traditional Zulu dancing.

Zululand - Swaziland
Leaving the village, continue northward through the rolling hills of Zululand. The area is dominated by various contrasts of rural villages mixed with large commercial forestry programs and sugar cane plantations. All makes for an interesting journey. Arrive at the Swaziland border late morning and once all formalities are completed proceed into this small and one of just 3 remaining Kingdoms on the Continent of Africa. A lunch stop will be made en route. Overnight will be in the heart of the country, the Ezulweni Valley.

Swaziland – Kruger National Park
Travel through the rest of Swaziland, re-enter South Africa and after just a short drive, enter the world famous Kruger National Park. At the gate, open sided 4x4 vehicles await to continue the journey through the park. Kruger boasts the greatest variety of wildlife in the world, 137 species of mammal including the worlds tallest; giraffe, heaviest; Elephant and fastest; cheetah. They also have 114 reptile species and over 600 bird species. The remainder of the day spent on safari. Overnight at a lodge situated on the border of the park.

Wednesday

Kruger National Park
Early morning departure by open vehicle for a full day game viewing. Breakfast supplied in the park. Time will allow a good penetration into this wildlife paradise, giving ample opportunity to see the ‘big 5’ amongst a host of different species. After an exhilarating day, return to the lodge for a dinner out in the ‘boma’ around a great big fire with a blanket of stars above with the chorus of the African night as entertainment.

Thursday

Kruger National Park - Dullstroom
Depart for a full day sight seeing along the Mpumalanga escarpment, visiting God’s window, Blyde river canyon, Bourkes luck potholes, Lisbon falls and the restored 19th century mining town of Pilgrims Rest. Continue through Lydenburg to the quaint village of Dullstroom. Situated at 7000ft above sea level, Dullstroom is the centre for trout fishing and the hotel is picture perfect in the most relaxing setting.

Dullstroom - Johannesburg
Travel to Pretoria where a city tour will include Voortrekker Monument, Kruger House, Church Square and Melrose house. After lunch, continue to Johannesburg for a quick orientation of the city before arriving at the hotel, situated in the suburb of Sandton.
A final, farewell dinner will be enjoyed together.

Johannesburg – Livingstone, Zambia
After a night in Johannesburg, transfer to the Airport for flight to Livingstone. Arrive Livingstone, transfer to the hotel, situated a stone’s throw away from the mighty Victoria Falls. Late afternoon, proceed to the jetty and board the boat for a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. This is the 4th largest river in Africa, separating at this point Zimbabwe and Zambia. Hippo and crocodile as well as the occasional buffalo and elephant are often sighted through the duration of the cruise. Return to the hotel for overnight and dinner.

Livingstone
Tour the falls from the Zambian side before crossing the bridge into Zimbabwe for a full tour from the Devils cataract through to danger point. Remainder of the day at leisure.

Livingstone
Full day at leisure. A variety of options are available:

  • Flight of angels: This is a 15-minute helicopter ride over the falls. David Livingstone, after he had been taken down the river in a dug-out canoe and landed on the back of an island, walked to the front where he had millions of gallons of water pouring over the rims around him. In awe he exclaimed “Sights as beautiful as this, only Angels have gazed upon”
  • Elephant back safari: Available on either a full or half day basis. A unique experience to climb up on an African Elephant and along with an experienced guide and handler, stroll through the bush in search of other animals, crossing through shallow water to a variety of islands in the Zambezi.
  • Full day game viewing in CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, BOTSWANA. Home to around 35000 elephants this is a truly magnificent experience. The day is split in two offering land based safari, followed by lunch and the remainder of the day by small boat.
  • Canoe safari on the upper Zambezi River: Paddle slowly down stream and experience the vast variety of birds as well as sights of the larger animals. Listen to stories of the days of Livingstone’s journey to the falls.

Transfer to the Livingstone Airport for return flight to Johannesburg. Final check in for flight to Atlanta.
